Until the opening of the Faisaliah and KingdomTowers, Riyadh’s Television Tower was regarded as the city’s major landmark and is still visible from almost all parts of the city.
Built in the early ‘80s, and at 170 metres high, the tower has an observation deck surmounted by a polyhedron structure containing a restaurant which nowadays is, unfortunately, closed to the general public.
The structural frame is of reinforced concrete, while the panel roof and floor slabs were pre-cast in-situ.
It stands in the grounds of the Television Centre – which has five television studios (TV2 broadcasts in English and can be seen on Hotbird, Arabsat, Atlantic Bird and Asiasat satellites), an 860-seat theatre and is also the home of Radio Riyadh, which broadcasts every day in English, French and Urdu (97.7MHz in Riyadh area).

Unfortunately, because of security concerns, it is not possible to visit this edifice without a permit.

The TV Tower is situated south-west of the Kingdom Centre, roughly the same distance west of the King Fahd Highway as Dirrah is to the east. You’ll find some of the roads in the vicinity are blocked off, but this won’t spoil your view of this magnificent structure.
